Montcalm and Saint-Jean-Baptiste are, along with Parliament Hill, the Upper Town districts starting on the western part of the Old Town fortifications. Historically, Saint-Jean Baptiste was a popular district, and Montcalm was privileged by the elite.
Many features of the past still linger, but these days, both districts are bustling urban neighborhoods where all kinds of people mingle. In the past few years, Montcalm has rebranded itself the District of the Arts (Quartier des arts) and Saint-Jean Baptiste attracted many new small and independent businesses, including a few trendy fashion stores, a great pub with craft beers, and an amazing coffee house.
This visit will give you the pulse on urban life in Quebec, and will show you the rich architectural, social, and cultural heritage of two districts that leaves no one indifferent!
